When a deep-sea salvage team finally breaks into the bullion room of a fabled luxury liner, instead of a fortune in wartime gold, they find a mysterious corpse, floating forever in a sealed tomb.

Inspired by a real-life mystery, Empress is the story of a legendary ship and two generations of a family whose fate is intimately bound up with her. 

The saga travels from a shipyard on the River Clyde, to the tropical seas where the rich and famous cruise in dazzling opulence, to the perilous waters of the Atlantic Ocean in World War II. The dramatic conclusion is set against the glamorous backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival in the sixties.
